���No to child labor yes to School Education campaign���

SAMARTH started an education awareness campaign, on the occasion of world day against child labour on 12th June 2019 in Gomti Nagar Slum area named “Om Namah Shivay” in association with IGNOU. Residents of the slum were asked to assemble at one place for the awareness program. Team SAMARTH and IGNOU provided information regarding the importance of education to the residents and tried to convince them to send their children to school. Residents of the slum interacted wonderfully; many girls who had left their school due to bad financial condition of their home, showed interest to join school and start their education again. Further, the team visited other slums of Lucknow named Baba ka purva, puraniya slum, sachivalaya colony and vinayakpuram. The team took one-hour sessions in all the slums respectively to convince people to send their children to school because education is the only key to success. In each session the team provided pamphlets to the people in which the consequence of child labour and benefit of education was highlighted. The team assured them that they will help them in the admission of their children. This campaign reached around 2,000 people and carried on for a month. SAMARTH got a good response and in the month of July the team helped enroll many children of the slums in schools. Many media houses covered the sessions. On occasion of ‘World Day Against Child Labour’ 21 june 2020 SAMARTH had organized an event under its campaign “No to child labor yes to School Education campaign” in slum near Puraniya, Lucknow. Team visited the field and interacted to the residents and asked them to assemble on one place within the slum area and each family was asked to bring their children 5 to 14 of age in the event. By keeping social distancing in mind team members told everyone to maintain proper distancing from one another. The session was started and team SAMARTH told them that child labor is a crime and it is punishable under law. Further, people were explained regarding the importance of education in one’s life and what adverse effect ‘Labour’ creates in child’s mind in tender age. 100 people had attended the session and gain knowledge regarding the seriousness of the subject. In the end snack packs containing puffed rice, jiggery, chickpea, and flattened rice, were distributed to the people presented there and 150 masks were distributed within the slum area.
